GS Instruments Records Black Ink for the First Time in 5 Years After M&A

Net balance for GS Instruments Co., Ltd., a telecommunication manufacturer, has turned to black ink for the first time in 5 years due to increase in exports to US and China.

This company¡¯s financial report for last year showed 19 billion Won in total sales, 3.3 billion Won in net profit. Net profit has increased 214% from the year before.

It means a lot to a company that was under legal management in 2003. Established in 1972, Hung Chang, former name for GSI, went bankrupt in 2001. Sales were at 1 trillion Won a year at its best years but went down to just 10 billion Won after bankruptcy. When it was merged in 2003 by GS Teletech, a telecommunication repeater company, the name was changed to GS Instruments Co., Ltd. and began to regain its past glory. CEO An Chang Don says, ¡°we were just out of legal management, so it was our priority to keep the spirits of our employers up. We emphasized on developing new products and diversifying customers.¡±

Developing and manufacturing both repeaters and its components, the company gained synergy effect on technical and marketing aspects. It began to emerge in the global market by providing a total telecommunication solution to the system integrators. Exports started to rise after getting signing a 10 million dollar deal for 3 years with JungHeung Electronics in China. Recently, the company registered as repeater vendor for a telecom operator in US and will be shipping WCDMA repeaters from June.

¡°Export to US where customers¡¯ complaints for poor signal are increasing has a bright future,¡± says Mr. An.

Meanwhile, development for new technology is at top speed. GSI leads the market with world first developed LPA (Linear Power Amplifier) which is an essential part for Wi-Bro repeaters. They have attained 3 patents related to this product.

Wi-Bro is a mobile broadband wireless service that allow customers to access internet while moving at 60km/h speed. GSI is confident that with the ability to produce test equipments used in testing the performance of such telecommunication products, the quality of repeater products far exceed its competition.

¡°We are vendors for Wi-Bro BTS company LG Nortel and we expect our Wi-Bro product sales to increase in the second half,¡± said Mr. An.
